But here's the reality: Life doesn't wait until we're ready, and neither does the unexpected.

Too many families are left trying to figure out how to pay the bills, cover funeral expenses, keep their homes, or simply make ends meet while grieving someone they love.

And that's a burden no family should have to face alone.

As a Veteran, I understand what it means to look out for the people depending on you. Taking off the uniform didn't change that commitment, and it's the same dedication I bring to every family I serve.

I lost one of my favorite Staff Sergeants, SSG Ski, a man I respected, admired, and was proud to serve alongside. Unfortunately, when he passed, he didn't have a financial plan in place to take care of his final expenses. His wife, someone I lovingly call Momma, was left having to start a GoFundMe just to give her husband the funeral he deserved.

And the heartbreaking part? Momma was our Family Readiness Group (FRG) leader. She spent years helping military families prepare for life's challenges, making sure everyone else had the resources and support they needed. Yet when tragedy struck her own family, the one thing they weren't prepared for was her husband's final goodbye.

Today, she's still struggling with the financial aftermath of losing him, on top of the heartbreak of losing her husband.

This is personal to me. This is WHY I do what I do.

I've seen firsthand what happens when a family is left without a plan. And if sharing his story encourages even one family to get their affairs in order, then maybe something good can come from such a heartbreaking loss.

Please don't wait until your family is the one asking for help. Love them enough to have a plan in place.
